“Ur’ne irurak,” Lirirak said, staring pointedly at Kaelin, and an acquisitive look came into his eyes that made Kaelin shrink down further into Ruyak’s ever-tightening fist.
Ruyak growled, “No.”
“What, you won’t even consider it?” Lirirak whined.
“No.”
“Why not? Don’t you want to know what happened to your sister? You’d rather wander all over Kellabor looking for her?”
“I’m not interested.”
Lirirak huffed in exasperation, “But… y’ne aru kara-”
“N’ar aranai naruk tai,” Ruyak interrupted him with a snarl of Dakatora so venomous, Kaelin thought it just had to be an expletive.
“Aluok…” Lirirak reeled back, shocked. “I was just making an offer.”
“Hey! No fighting at the eyrie!” someone barked from nearby. All at once they were surrounded by curious and disapproving glowing yellow eyes, gathered in a circle around the tense conversation.
“Lirirak, stop bothering him,” another Kanai said, jostling their way between Lirirak and Ruyak. “Now’s not the time to be making deals.”
“He’s flat-eared, that one,” Lirirak grumbled bitterly to no one in particular.
